3 People Thrown From SUV, Killed In Overnight Crash On I-94; 1 In Critical Condition

Unfortunately, Saturday mornings brings bad news in many parts of the country nearly every week without fail.
CBS Detroit reports authorities say three people were killed when they were ejected from a speeding SUV during an overnight crash on I-94 in Detroit.

The one-car accident happened around 1:10 a.m. Saturday on eastbound I-94 near Helen Avenue, just past Mt. Elliott on the city’s east side.

Michigan State Police say a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer was travelling at “a very high rate of speed” when the driver lost control, went up the freeway embankment and struck a light pole.

The SUV rolled several times back onto the freeway, ejecting the driver, front passenger and one rear passenger. Two of the passengers were pronounced dead at the scene — a 20-year-old female and a male whose age hasn’t been determined — while the third later died at a local hospital.

A fourth passenger who was sitting in the back seat had to be extricated from the SUV by firefighters. That person remains in critical condition at a local hospital.
