PC Police Strike Again: Florida prosecutor suspended for Facebook post following Orlando shooting

Who said America is a land of free speech?
Everyday we’re told what not to say or think because it offends somebody or some thing.  Take away words and thoughts and that’s how you get totalitarianism.

Fox News reports the Florida State Attorney’s Office announced Friday that an assistant state attorney was suspended for violating the office’s social media policy.

Angela Starke, the public information officer for the State Attorney’s Office, Ninth Judicial Circuit, said Assistant State Attorney Kenneth Lewis was disciplined for a Facebook message following the Orlando massacre that left 49 dead and dozens wounded Sunday.
According to WESH-TV, Lewis wrote a scathing Facebook post decrying Orlando right after the shooting.

"Downtown Orlando has no bottom. The entire city should be leveled. It is void of a single redeeming quality. It is a melting pot of 3rd world miscreants and ghetto thugs. It is void of culture. If you live down there you do it at your own risk and at your own peril.

I don’t know Orlando so I can’t comment on the specifics this man was referring to.  But, this man is a native Floridian giving his opinion on how he views Orlando.  He could have given his opinion on something else entirely and still get suspended.  This has a chilling effect on everyone.  And that’s not supposed to happen in America.  China, yes, here no!

  1. I can only speak due a few visits to Downtown Orlando, compared to typical areas of town in most midsize cities it was not that unusual. Not a place you would want your kids going to but not so bad you were immediately frightened to be there. Still, I am sure you could find or stumble into trouble with not too much effort. While the free speech monitoring of the prosecutor's Facebook page is troubling, it has long been recognized (going back to Oliver Wendell Holmes) that free speech does not mean you can't get fired from your job for exercising it.

    1. I don't know anything about Orlando except Disney World. So I'll defer to a native on how he feels about the place. He was just giving his opinion. We're supposed to be able to have one in America. I'm for more free speech, not less. That's why I'm so hard on political correctness, it's killing society on so many levels.

  2. Mr. Lewis undoubtedly sees the greater realities and the seamier underbelly of his city much more clearly than the sanctimonious appeasers in their ivory towers.
Hang in there, Mr. Lewis. There will be an Attorney General position opening soon.
