It's Official New York Mayor De Blasio Insane: Wants City to close extremely secure Rikers Island Jail favor mini-jails in each borough high populated areas

Yesterday Mayor De Blasio announced he guaranteed a job for every convict leaving prison.
That in itself was a stupid idea on its face.  But, today the Communist mayor of New Yorker wanted top himself with more  ridiculous idea of shutting down one of the most secure jails in the United States, Rikers Island.

NY Post reports Mayor Bill de Blasio on Friday vowed to shutter Rikers Island and replace it with “at least a few new facilities” to lock up jailbirds elsewhere in the city.
“New York City will close the Rikers Island jail facility,” de Blasio said during a City Hall news conference.

“It will take many years, it will take many tough decisions along the way. But it will happen.”

But de Blasio stopped short of adopting the recommendations in a draft report from a blue-ribbon panel headed by former New York state Chief Judge Jonathan Lippman.

That plan calls for building a new jail in each of the city’s five boroughs at a total estimated cost of $10.6 billion.

“I’m working from a neutral position of saying I only know this: We will need a few more facilities,” de Blasio said.

“There’s no assumption on the number or location or how many.”

Jail is not supposed to be Club Med.  But, Mayor De Blasio will never understand that.

  1. I guarantee it will cost at least $100 million per borough to build jails that will hold an average daily prison population of 10,000 offenders (plus 9,000 officers and 1,500 civilian employees), which is what Rikers holds today. Good luck with that NYC.
