Georgia high school football star Mason Tompkins dies after jump from waterfall

Incredible!  Three teen deaths in one 24 hour news cycle.  I've never seen anything like this in eight years of blogging.

NY Post reports a former high school football star died after jumping from a rock atop a 35-foot waterfall into an Alabama creek, authorities say.

Mason Tompkins, 18, died Saturday after the wild leap at High Falls Park in DeKalb County and disappeared in the water, DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Michael Edmonson told AL.com.

Tompkins — of Acworth, Georgia — apparently struck his head on the way down after jumping from the waterfall — which spans about 300 feet across, witnesses said. Swimming and diving near the rough waters below the falls is “considerably dangerous,” according to the park’s website.
