Oklahoma teacher Teresa Danks panhandles for money to buy classroom supplies

Mixed feelings.  As much as I dislike panhandling, I can't fault the reasoning this teacher has.  On the other hand, it's a brilliant form of protest to embarrasses school officials.
Very effective, I think.

Fox News reports a public school teacher has turned to panhandling at an Oklahoma interstate off-ramp to raise money to buy classroom supplies for her third-grade students.

Teresa Danks, a teacher in the Tulsa Public Schools system, stood at the busy Interstate-44 intersection Tuesday begging for spare change with a scrawled sign that said, “Teacher Needs School Supplies! Anything Helps.”

“All I want to do is give those kids the best,” Danks told Fox 23 Tulsa.

  1. Well I guess that the teachers have to do whatever they have to. After all, the PTA can't hold bake sales anymore.

  2. My wife is a retired teacher. I wish I could have claimed the thousands of dollars as a deductible that she spent over the course of her career. Most of the money was spent on basics like paper, pencils, and chalk.

  3. What about the $.50 every table game they collect at the casinos? It is suppose to go to the schools. That is allot of $$$. I feel for the teacher.
