Homeless Man Elmer Alvarez Returns Found $10K to Owner

By the grace of God go I.
This is the type of story that warms the heart.  God Bless Mr. Alvarez and Ms. Hoskie.
FoxNews reports a homeless man in Connecticut says he wanted to "do the right thing" when he found and returned a $10,000 check.
The New Haven Register reports real estate agent Roberta Hoskie lost the check Wednesday morning in New Haven. She says she got a call that Elmer Alvarez found the check before she realized it was lost.

Hoskie went to meet Alvarez, and she found out during the meeting that he was homeless. She understood the situation well, as she had once been homeless herself.
Hoskie gave Alvarez another check for an undisclosed amount.

  1. Pardon my cynicism, but it would have been more heart warming if he'd returned $10,000 in cash. A homeless man cashing a check for $10K that wasn't addressed to him would be...problematic to say the least. I would think that turning it in for a possible reward was his only real option.
