Leaker Fesses Up: James Comey admits to leaking Trump memo to get special prosecutor

I doubt very much this was the first time James Comey has leaked information to the press. 
I bet he's been leaking to the media on a whole bunch of other occasions.

NY Daily News reports former FBI Director James Comey admitted Thursday that he leaked information about President Trump in hopes that it would lead to a special prosecutor taking over the criminal probe about Russian collusion.

Comey revealed in his Senate Intelligence Committee testimony that he asked a friend at Columbia University to leak one of the memos he kept about his conversations with Trump.

He said he was pushed to act after Trump tweeted an apparent threat about releasing "tapes" of their talks. Comey believed his own records could corroborate their conversations. 

“My judgment was that I needed to get that out into the public square,” Comey said.

He added that he thought the leak would “prompt the appointment of a special counsel.”

Columbia Law School Professor Daniel Richman confirmed to The Washington Post during the hearing that he is the friend-turned-leaker. He made no further comment.
