Emmanuel Santiago Batista accused of vandalizing Columbus statue in Yonkers, Is he here legally?

Lohud reports a Yonkers man has been accused of smashing a Christopher Columbus statue with a baseball bat in "an act of spontaneous vandalism," police said.

Yonkers police said Emmanuel Santiago Batista, 27, was arrested on Monday for damaging the Columbus bust at 59 Park Hill Ave.

Police said they had been investigating the case since 9:28 a.m. on Aug. 29, when the vandalism was reported in Columbus Memorial Park. The bust of Columbus was missing from its pedestal and was found nearby, apparently having been forcibly removed.
